Edges Walk - 16th October - Eastern Moors

A wonderfully blustery walk was enjoyed by all on our Edges Walk yesterday.
Thanks to Julia Smith for this lovely rainbow photo taken along the way.
Don't worry if you missed out, we have a Deer Walk this Sunday 21st October. See our website for more details of What's On:

Team chat...

'During a recent storm one evening at Warren Lodge, I observed a barn owl hunting around one of the old barns in the meadows, so I thought I would keep an eye out. I was soon to be rewarded with another sighting as the owl perched on top of the footpath sign to Curbar Edge!
Visitors may soon be able to spot the Great Grey Shrike as it visits Ramsley Moor. The bird is attracted to the standing dead trees and decomposing silver birch after the recent felling. This bird is sometimes known as the butcher bird and has in the past held a larder of small birds and mammals pierced and left to eat later on a thorn tree at Ramsley reservoir.
The deer rut is in full swing with a large herd of wild red deer to be seen from the trig point on Big Moor, a majestic spectacle more akin to the Scottish highlands.
The wardens have been making some stone gateposts from raw materials to replace old broken stoops and this has proved a delightful task, resulting in further renovation of the estate infrastructure.'
